    Alternative Name

    Parafibromin

    Background

Background: Parafibromin, also known as HRPT2 (hyperparathyroidism 2 protein), has been identified as a tumor suppressor that is associated with hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor syndrome, an autosomal dominant disease characterized by hyperparathyroidism due to parathyroid tumors and ossifying fibromas of the mandible and maxilla. Parafibromin is a component of the PAF1 complex that associates with RNA polymerase II and plays a role in mRNA 3'-end processing and transcription elongation. Parafibromin has been demonstrated to function as an inhibitor of the cell cycle.
